The U.S. National Guard has expressed deep sorrow following the crash of a military aircraft that killed six members of the Air National Guard’s aerial refueling squadron. The tragic incident has shaken the National Guard family and the entire Air National Guard community.
In a statement, the National Guard Chief of Staff said he, his wife Shannon, and the entire Air National Guard family join in mourning the deaths of the six brave members of the Air National Guard who were serving in the air refueling squadron. Among the dead were three Ohio National Guard soldiers assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Squadron, as well as three other soldiers on direct duty from the 99th Air Refueling Squadron, which is affiliated with the 117th Alabama National Guard.
The soldiers have been identified as:
- Major John A. Klinner, 33 years old.
- Captain Ariana G. Savino, 31 years old.
- Master Sergeant Ashley B. Pruitt, 34 years old.
- Captain Seth R. Koval, 38 years old.
- Captain Curtis J. Angst, 30 years old.
- Master Sergeant Tyler H. Simmons, 28 years old.
According to the statement, the soldiers were among the key experts in air force operations, especially in the work of refueling other aircraft in the air. The work requires great skill and high level of attention, as it is carried out at high speed and at high altitude in the air. Through this role, military aircraft can extend the duration of operations, reach the most remote areas in the world, and support the success of various military operations.
Airmen from various military services recognize and highly respect the contribution of aerial refueling forces, as they enable combat aircraft and other operations to achieve their missions more effectively.
The National Guard has expressed its deepest respect for the soldiers who lost their lives, emphasizing that they were heroes who served with courage and dedication. In addition, the army has offered condolences and comfort to the families, relatives, friends, as well as their fellow soldiers and the entire community of aerial refueling aircraft operators who have been affected by the tragedy.
